Safe Work on Roofs Telecommunication

The aim of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of safe work practices when installing or repairing telecommunications equipment on roof structures.

1 day (8 hours)

This course applies to individuals employed as technicians and installers who are required to safely install or repair telecommunications equipment on roof structures.

Exposing students to working at heights risks in multiple real-life scenarios helps them understand how to manage those risks in the workplace. Students will be able to identify the hazards of work at height and have an understanding of key legislation.

Following training, students will be able to understand the various categories of personal fall prevention and protection equipment (PPE), including their characteristics and limitations. Students will also be required to carry out pre and post use inspections of all equipment.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for the course. All students must be eligible to receive nationally recognised training within Australia and be able to provide an unique student identifier (USI) upon enrolment.

  • Legislation
  • Risk assessments and control measures
  • Pre and post use inspection of all personal fall arrest equipment
  • Demonstrate fall restraint, work positioning, and fall arrest techniques
  • Anchor point selection and inspection
  • Correct rigging of anchorage slings
  • Installation of temporary roof anchorages
  • Load of roof surfaces and calculating loads on roof surfaces
  • How to recognise suspension intolerance
  • Emergency planning

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

  • Have the physical capacity to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including gaining access, working, and egress from a place of height whilst wearing the appropriate PPE
  • Have sufficient English language, literacy, numeracy, and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete the course
  • Present photo I.D. on arrival

Training can be conducted at your work site or off-site at one of our purpose-built training facilities.
