Operate Breathing Apparatus (Rosebery)

This is a 1 day course with theory and practical components lasting around 5 hours each. You can choose to physically attend our training facility to undertake both theory and practical components or choose to do the theory component via e-Learning. If you choose to do the theory component via e-Learning you will need to be at our training facility for the practical component by 1pm on the date the course is available (please be early as it starts at 1pm sharp). The course cost is the same with either option.

This course has been designed for individuals who work alone or as part of a team as an operator required to wear breathing apparatus in their work role. This might be because they are working in a confined space, with hazardous gases/vapours, or in an oxygen-deficient atmosphere.

It covers the skills and knowledge required to conduct pre-donning checks and tests on breathing apparatus, operate and maintain breathing apparatus and equipment in an irrespirable atmosphere, the use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment, and conclude operations as defined by the Australian Standard AS/NZS 1715:2009 Selection.

Concluding operations includes correctly closing down, removing, and cleaning the breathing apparatus, and reporting faults and/or damage to the breathing apparatus.

  • Conclude operations in accordance with procedures

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

  • Have the literacy and numeracy competencies to be able to read testing equipment and determine the available working time from a breathing apparatus set
  • Have the physical capability to wear and work in a breathing apparatus and associated equipment in a range of conditions.
  • Present photo I.D. on arrival
Training and Facility

Training can be conducted at your work site or off-site at one of our purpose-built training facilities.
