Low Voltage Rescue

This is a 4 hour course with theory and practical components lasting around 2 hours each. You can choose to physically attend our training facility to undertake both theory and practical components or choose to do the theory component via e-Learning. If you choose to do the theory component via e-Learning you will need to be at our training facility for the practical component by 10am on the date the course is available (please be early as it starts at 10am sharp). The course cost is the same with either option.

The aim of this course is to provide students with the skills to perform a rescue from a live low voltage (LV) apparatus, not including overhead lines and underground cables in the workplace. It specifies the mandatory requirements of rescue from a live LV panel and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution or rail work functions.

The following national units of competencies are delivered and assessed by Skylar Safety RTO 21647

Objectives and Content
  • Understanding a LVR Kit
  • Inspection of rescue equipment
  • Manual handling
  • Assessing hazards to rescuer, victim and others
  • Isolation procedures where appropriate
  • Knowledge of Safe Approach Distances (SADs) appropriate to rescue from a live LV panel
  • Practical demonstration of rescuing a person
  • Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SADs) appropriate to rescue from a live LV panel
  • Perform a rescue
  • Assess the casualty and recognise the need for CPR
  • Emergency response services
  • Operate a fire blanket
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with ARC guidelines
  • Display respectful behaviour towards casualty
  • Operate automated external defibrillator (AED) according to manufacturer’s instructions
Entry Requirements

Participant must:

  • Have the ability to read, write and understand English
  • Present photo I.D. on arrival
  • Have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.
  • Wear normal work clothing and enclosed footwear
Training and Facility

Training can be conducted at your work site or off-site at one of our purpose-built training facilities.
