Initial Spills Response

This unit applies to personnel who respond to an incident involving dangerous goods and hazardous substances and who have the skills and knowledge to identify and assess the hazards and risks and contribute to the development, implementation and review of the plan constructed to mitigate the risk they pose the public and environment.

‘Hazardous materials incident’ is a generic term used to refer to an incident involving any material such as dangerous goods and hazardous substances that poses an unreasonable risk to life, property and the environment.

  • Legislation relevant to the organisation
  • Methods of identifying hazardous materials
  • Mitigation (confinement/containment) techniques
  • Nature and properties of hazardous materials
  • Organisational policies and procedures
  • PPE procedures
  • Principles of incident control
  • Scene control and site isolation
  • Clean up a basic spill

Entry Requirements

Participants must have:

  • Ability to read, write and understand English
  • Present photo I.D. on arrival
  • Wear normal work clothing, enclosed footwear

    Training can be conducted at your work site or off-site at one of our purpose-built training facilities.
