Fire Extinguisher and Emergency Warden Combo (Emu Plains)

This course is aimed at those in the role of a Fire Warden and is responsible for participating in the preparation of workplace emergency procedures; alerting and reporting potential workplace emergencies; evaluating the need to evacuate a work area; preparing for evacuation, and assisting people who may require support in accordance with workplace emergency procedures.

This course also offers the skills and knowledge for preparing wardens for emergency situations, identifying and assessing an emergency, safely confining emergencies, using initial response equipment and initiating emergency response first attack firefighting skills for small emergencies, such as small fires that can be controlled using a fire extinguisher.

  • Applying Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements
  • Communicating with occupants, emergency personnel and stakeholders
  • Complying with facility policies and procedures
  • Confining emergencies safely and giving and following instructions
  • Identifying and acting to avoid or control any associated hazards
  • Identifying and assessing an emergency
  • Implementing facility emergency response procedures
  • Preparing for emergency situations
  • Reporting facility emergency response
  • Restowing initial response equipment
  • Using initial response equipment
  • Utilising risk management processes
  • Identify emergency reports, signals and warnings
  • Carry out emergency assessment and reporting
  • Monitor and respond to hazards and situation developments
  • Carry out hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
  • Provide assistance to those who require it.
  • Carry out initial emergency response including evacuation, seeking emergency services advice or attendance, supplying emergency equipment and undertaking search activities
  • Account for evacuated people using a range of methods
  • Prepare and conduct post initial response and participate in debriefing sessions
  • Report evacuation results
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the emergency control team
