EWP Rescue and Escape

The aim of this course is to provide students with the skills to perform a controlled descent escape in the workplace from an elevating work platform (EWP).

UETTDRRF03 Perform EWP rescue, UETTDRRF08 Perform EWP controlled descent escape
Duration:
4 Hours

Students are also taught how to rescue from an EWP in the workplace. It specifies the mandatory requirements of EWP rescue and EWP controlled emergency descent and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution or rail work functions.

Prerequisites

HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Objectives and Content
  • Inspection of EWP emergency escape equipment
  • Assessing hazards to rescuer or casuyalty/s and others
  • Isolation procedures where appropriate
  • Knowledge of Safe Approach Distances (SAD’s) appropriate to rescue from an EWP
  • Identify emergency lowering functions of EWP
  • Practical demonstration of rescuing a person from an EWP
  • Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SADs) appropriate to EWP rescue
  • Assess the casualty and perform any first aid
  • Seek assistance from emergency response services
  • Emergency descent equipment is checked for safety and function to ensure accessibility according to established procedures
  • Set up emergency descent equipment
  • Exiting a EWP Basket
  • Practical demonstration of a controlled emergency descent
  • Manage casualty as per the Australian resuscitation council of Austral guidelines
Entry Requirements

Participants must:

  • Have the ability to read, write and understand English
  • Present photo I.D. on arrival
  • Wear normal work clothing and enclosed footwear
Training and Facility

Training can be conducted at your work site or off-site at one of our purpose-built training facilities.
