CPR & Defibrillation

This course provides workers with the skills and knowledge required to recognise when someone is unconscious and not breathing normally (cardiac arrest), and increase their chance of survival by calling an ambulance and performing potentially lifesaving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including using a defibrillator, until emergency services arrive to take over.

Duration:

Half-day (4 hours)

In day-to-day life, in the workplace, in the community, or at home, you may be confronted by a life-threatening emergency such as someone experiencing cardiac arrest. Quick decision-making and knowledge on what to do could save someone’s life.

The course is delivered in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and applies to all workers or members of the community who may be required to provide CPR in the event of an emergency.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for the course unless student is doing a CPR Refresher in which case must hold a current CPR qualification (completed within 12 months).

Objectives and Content

Assess the incident scene
Conduct D-R-S-A-B-C-D
Provide CPR on adult and infants
Demonstrate a rotation of single rescuer operators with minimal interruptions to compressions
Operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) according to manufacturers' instructions
Roll patient into recovery position
Handover to medical personnel
Manage a choking patient

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

Have the ability to read, write and understand English
Present photo I.D. on arrival
Wear normal work clothing, enclosed footwear
Have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

Please Note: CPR training must be updated (“refreshed”) every 12 months.

Training and Facility

Training can be conducted at your work site or off-site at one of our purpose-built training facilities.
