Confined Space Entry – Sydney Water

This course has been designed for those working in Sydney Water-owned or -operated confined spaces for the purpose of carrying out work or inspections and is also appropriate for those performing sentry or stand-by person roles at worksites.

Duration:

4 days (40 Hours)

This course covers everything from our regular Confined Space Entry 1-day course, with an extra day for the content and practical activities relating to roles and responsibilities of the team, the confined space risk assessment process, gas testing, and standby operations including rescue activities.

It teaches participants how to identify confined space hazards, work safely within confined spaces according to an issued permit, and operate various confined space safety equipment. It's also suitable for workers who may be required to act as a standby, operate gas detectors, or safely and efficiently enter and work in a confined space.

Objectives and Content

Legislation
Understanding of confined space legislation and standards
How to perform risk assessments and control measures
Tagging and lock out
Confined space permits and risk assessment
Atmospheric monitoring and interpret readings
Confined space entry equipment – tripods, davits, RPDs, personal winches, retrieval SRLs, spreader bars and full body harnesses
Use fire extinguisher
CPR
Demonstrate confined space entry, work positioning and rescue techniques including for vertical and horizontal entries
Non-Entry and entry rescue techniques
Operate breathing apparatus
- Types of supplied air breathing apparatus systems
- Understanding the role and functions of key components of breathing apparatus systems
- Calculating cylinder duration
- Pre-use & pre-operational checks
- Donning breathing apparatus equipment
- Practical exercises performed
- Conclude operations in accordance with procedures
Discharge the obligations of a standby person and supervise confined space operations
Clean up work area

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

Have the physical fitness to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstrations for this course, such as undertaking the requirements to safely enter, work in, and exit a confined space wearing the appropriate PPE.
Have sufficient English language, literacy, numeracy, and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete the course.
Have the physical capacity to wear the appropriate PPE and use testing apparatus to test the atmosphere of an area.
Present photo I.D. on arrival
Have the ability to take readings and interpret and report/record relevant data.

Training and Facility

Training can be conducted at your work site or off-site at one of our purpose-built training facilities.
