Advanced Structure Access

This intensive course has been specially designed to provide candidates with advanced climbing skills that give workers the ability to access all areas of towers using working at heights and advanced work positioning techniques using industrial descenders and Type 1 fall arrest devices where traditional twin lanyard techniques cannot be used in accordance with ISO 22846 Parts 1 & 2.

Duration:
3 days (24 hours)

Candidates will also learn technical rope rescue techniques in order to deal with different emergencies that may arise due to the variety of situations that tower workers may face in everyday high-risk working environments.

Prerequisites

Students must hold and show previously held statements of attainment for work safely at heights training and tower rescue (attained within the last 3 years) plus hold a current HLTAID003 Provide first aid or HLTAID011 Provide First Aid qualification.

Objectives and Content
  • Legislation and risk assessments and control measures for tower works
  • Pre and post use inspection of all personal fall arrest equipment
  • Restraint technique and fall arrest definitions
  • Demonstrate work positioning and fall arrest techniques and equipment selection
  • Anchor point selection, inspection, and rigging of anchorage slings and ropes
  • Use of vertical lifelines, single and twin lanyards structural mobility techniques
  • Australian and international rope access and height safety standards
  • Technical understanding of industrial rope access and height safety equipment
  • Planning and logistics, minimising environmental impact, and respond to emergency
  • Knots and anchors
  • Perform advanced work positioning techniques

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

  • Have the physical capacity to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including gaining access, working, and egress from a place of height whilst wearing the appropriate PPE
  • Have sufficient English language, literacy, numeracy, and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete the course
  • Present photo I.D. on arrival
